Unlike the typeset printed documents that became common after the founding of the People's Republic of China, archives from the Republic of China period are mostly handwritten. Compared with the recognition of regularly arranged printed text, the recognition of handwritten text faces great challenges because of variations in character shapes, diverse writing styles and irregular layouts. To meet these practical difficulties, high-precision handwriting recognition technology must be developed to further support the development and use of Republic of China archival resources. Therefore, this research focuses on the in-depth application of handwritten text recognition technology in the management of Republic of China archives. It produces academic papers on topics such as data annotation standards for handwritten text recognition in Republic of China archives, and technical methods and evaluation systems for handwritten text recognition in Republic of China archives. These papers are planned for submission to core journals of archival science and to international core journals of technological innovation in the information field.
